SUB-DIC PROJECT (BIOINFORMATICS CENTRE)

Sub-DIC Project / Bioinformatics Centre at Department of Biochemistry & JB Tropical Disease Research Centre, Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences was established in March 1999 with support from Department of Biotechnology, as part of National Bioinformatics Network. The Centre has thrust on Medical / Health Informatics since inception and is actively involved in research and providing academic bibliography service. In addition to In-house Training programme for staff involved in Hospital Information service, the Centre organizes yearly National level Workshop / Seminar / Symposia etc. So far 19 conferences / workshops have been organized which were well appreciated. Further, this Centre also publishes e-SEVAMED - a recent advances on Bioinformatics, Next Generation Sequencing, Drug Designing etc (www.bicjbtdrc-mgims.in/sevamed/). Online Health Informatics Certification (OHIC), six months certification course is being conducted at Bioinformatics Centre, MGIMS, Sevagram since July 2010 which provides online training to Healthcare personnel and interested graduates in Science, Business Administration & Information Technology. The OHIC is dealt with 6 modules (1) Introduction to Health Informatics; (2) Knowledge Management in Health Informatics; (3) Integrating Technology into Health Care Delivery; (4) Imaging, Pharmaceutical and Laboratory Informatics; (5) Nursing, Public Health and Consumer Health Informatics; (6) Electronic Medical Records & Assignments with six assignments and two online tests. Thirty five registrations from UK, Uganda, Mauritius, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia and India have been received to date. Feedback showed that the course was well appreciated.

Centre has developed customized Database Software for patients’ information and launched a web portal MGIMS-JBTDRC Arogya on Holistic Healthcare and Research in Lifestyle diseases and MGIMS-JBTDRC Health Update for current awareness on Emerging Infectious Diseases and Lifestyle Health Problems. Further databases have been developed on Mycobacterial proteases (Mycoprotease-DB, http://www.bicjbtdrc-mgims.in/MycoProtease-DB/), Mycobacterium tuberculosis Proteome comparison (MTB-PCDB, http://www.bicjbtdrc-mgims.in/MTB-PCDB/) and Human Papillomavirus Proteome (hpvPDB, http://bicjbtdrc-mgims.in/hpvPDB/).
